Future with will: predictions and decisions

Gələcək zaman: will, proqnozlar və anlıq qərarlar

After this lesson you can

  • Can make predictions about the future based on opinion using will / won't.
  • Can make decisions at the moment of speaking, offers and promises with will.
  • Can choose between will and going to in simple situations.

Explanation

Form

will + base verb, the same for all persons: I'll help, she won't come, Will they win? No to after will.

Uses

  1. Predictions based on opinion: I think it will be sunny tomorrow.
  2. Decisions at the moment of speaking: The phone's ringing., I'll get it!
  3. Offers and promises: I'll carry that bag for you. I won't tell anyone. For offers as questions, use Shall I...?

will or going to?

  • will: decided now, prediction from opinion.
  • going to: decided before (a plan), prediction from evidence you can see.

We've got no milk., Oh, I'll buy some. (new decision) vs I'm going to buy milk after work. (plan)

Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah

Forma

will + əsas feil, bütün şəxslər üçün eynidir:

  • Təsdiq: I will (I'* ll**) help you.*
  • İnkar: She won't (= will not) come.
  • Sual: Will they win?

will-dən sonra to işlənmir və feil dəyişmir: ✗ He will to go, ✗ He will goes.

1. Proqnoz (fikir, inam)

Şəxsi fikrə əsaslanan proqnozlar üçün, çox vaxt I think, I'm sure, probably, maybe ilə:

  • I think it will be sunny tomorrow.
  • People will probably live on Mars one day.

2. Anlıq qərar

Qərarı danışıq anında veririksə:

  • - The phone's ringing., I'll get it! (Mən götürərəm!)
  • I'm hungry. I think I'll make a sandwich.

3. Təklif və vəd

  • Təklif: That bag looks heavy. I'll carry it. / Shall I open the window?
  • Vəd: I won't tell anyone. I promise. / I'll call you tonight.

will yoxsa going to?

fikrə əsaslanan proqnozgözlə görünən əlamətə əsaslanan proqnoz
- We've got no milk., Oh, I'll buy some.I'm going to buy milk after work. (artıq plan)

Azərbaycan dilində hər ikisi çox vaxt "-acaq/-əcək" və ya "-ar/-ər" ilə tərcümə olunur. Anlıq qərar və təkliflər üçün "-aram/-ərəm" (Mən götürərəm, Mən aparım) yaxşı müqayisədir.

Tipik səhv

"Mən sabah gələcəm" kimi plan cümləsini hər zaman will ilə demək. Əgər bu, artıq hazırlanmış plandırsa, I'm going to come və ya I'm coming daha təbiidir.

Examples

  • I think Azerbaijan will win the match.

    Məncə, Azərbaycan matçı udacaq.

    fikrə əsaslanan proqnoz

  • Don't worry, I'll help you with your homework.

Narahat olma, ev tapşırığında sənə kömək edərəm.

    təklif

  • - It's cold in here., I'll close the window.

    - Burada soyuqdur., Pəncərəni bağlayaram.

    anlıq qərar

  • I promise I won't be late again.

    Söz verirəm, bir daha gecikməyəcəyəm.

    vəd

  • Will you be at home this evening?

    Bu axşam evdə olacaqsan?

  • Shall I bring some drinks?

    İçki gətirim?

    Shall I...?, təklif

  • Prices will probably go up next year.

Gələn il qiymətlər yəqin ki, artacaq.

Common mistakes

  • I will to call you tomorrow.

    I will call you tomorrow.

    will-dən sonra 'to' işlənmir.

  • She will comes later.

    She will come later.

will-dən sonra feil əsas formada olur, -s artırılmır.

  • - The doorbell is ringing., I'm going to open it.

    - The doorbell is ringing., I'll open it.

Qərar danışıq anında verilir → will.

  • I think it won't to rain.

I don't think it will rain.

'to' işlənmir; ingilis dilində isə 'I don't think ... will' forması daha təbiidir.

  • Will I open the window?

    Shall I open the window?

Təklif sualı üçün I/we ilə 'Shall' işlənir.
