Second conditional
İkinci tip şərt cümlələri
After this lesson you can
- Can talk about imaginary or unlikely situations in the present or future.
- Can give advice using If I were you, I'd ...
- Can distinguish between first and second conditional meaning.
Explanation
Form
If + past simple, would + infinitive: If I had more money, I would buy a bike.
Use
Imaginary, impossible or unlikely situations in the present or future. The past form does not mean past time.
were can be used for all persons: If I were you, I'd take the job. (advice)
We can use could or might instead of would: If we left now, we might catch the bus.
Never use would in the if-clause: If I knew (not If I would know).
First conditional = real possibility (If I pass, I'll celebrate). Second conditional = unreal or unlikely (If I were a bird, I'd fly).
Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
Quruluş
If + Past Simple, would + felin əsas forması
- If I had a car, I would drive to work., Maşınım olsaydı, işə maşınla gedərdim.
Diqqət edin: ingilis dilində would yalnız nəticə hissəsində işlənir, if hissəsində yox. Öyrənənlər çox vaxt If I would have time deyirlər, bu səhvdir.
were
be feli üçün bütün şəxslərdə were işlətmək olar, xüsusən rəsmi dildə: If she were here, she would help. Danışıq dilində If she was here də eşidilir. Məsləhət ifadəsində isə həmişə were: If I were you, I'* d** apologise.*, Sənin yerində olsaydım, üzr istəyərdim.
Digər modallar
would əvəzinə could (bacarıq) və might (ehtimal) də işlənə bilər:
- If I spoke Chinese, I could work in Shanghai.
- If you asked him, he might say yes.
Birinci və ikinci tip
| Birinci tip | İkinci tip |
|---|---|
| real ehtimal | xəyali / az ehtimal |
| If it rains, I'll stay home. | If I won the lottery, I'd buy a house. |
Eyni vəziyyəti danışanın baxışından asılı olaraq hər iki tiplə demək olar: If I get the job, I'll move (ehtimal var) vs If I got the job, I'd move (çətin ki, alım).
Söz sırası
if hissəsi əvvəl gələndə vergül qoyulur; sonda gələndə vergül lazım deyil: I'd travel more if I had money.
Examples
If I lived near the sea, I would swim every day.
Dəniz kənarında yaşasaydım, hər gün üzərdim.
If I were you, I'd talk to your manager.
Sənin yerində olsaydım, menecerinlə danışardım.
Məsləhət

Küçədə pul kisəsi tapsaydın, nə edərdin?
If she had more free time, she could learn to play the piano.
Daha çox boş vaxtı olsaydı, pianino çalmağı öyrənə bilərdi.
I wouldn't buy that phone if I were you. It's too expensive.
