Word formation
Suffixes go at the end and usually change the word class:
- Nouns: -tion, -ment, -ness, -ity, -er/-or/-ist (education, development, kindness, ability, scientist)
- Adjectives: -ful, -less, -able/-ible, -ous, -al, -ive (useful, useless, reliable, dangerous, creative)
- Verbs: -ise/-ize, -en, -ify (modernise, widen, simplify)
Prefixes go at the start and change the meaning:
- Negative: un-, in-, im- (before p/m/b), il- (before l), ir- (before r), dis-
- Other: re- (again), mis- (wrongly), over- (too much), pre- (before), co- (together).
Watch spelling: happy → happiness, -ful has one l.

Sifət düzəldən şəkilçilər
-ful (useful = faydalı), -less (useless = faydasız; Azərbaycan **-sız/-siz **), -able/-ible (reliable, flexible), -ous (dangerous), -al (cultural), -ive (creative).
Fel və zərf
- Fel: -ise/-ize (modernise), -en (widen, shorten), -ify (simplify).
- Zərf: -ly (quick → quickly).
İnkar önşəkilçiləri
- un-: unhappy, unusual, unfair
- in-: incorrect, independent
- im- (p, m, b-dən əvvəl): impossible, impatient, immature
- il- (l-dən əvvəl): illegal
- ir- (r-dən əvvəl): irregular, irresponsible
- dis-: disagree, dishonest, dislike
Digər önşəkilçilər
re- (yenidən: rewrite), mis- (səhv: misunderstand), over- (həddən artıq: overcook), pre- (əvvəl: preview), co- (birgə: co-worker).
Tipik səhvlər
- Səhv önşəkilçi:
unpossible→ **impossible **,unlegal→ illegal. - Yazılış dəyişikliyi: happy → happiness (y → i), able → ability.
- -ful bir l ilə yazılır:
beautifull→ beautiful.
