Notices and signs

In English, short notices often use the imperative (verb first): Stop!, **Push **, **Pull **, **Open **, **Closed **, **No smoking **, **Exit **, Entrance.

Short messages

Messages often have **numbers **, times and dates:

  • Meet me at 5 o'clock.
  • The shop opens at 9 a.m.
  • Call me on 055 123 45 67.

Useful words

a.m. = morning, p.m. = afternoon/evening, free = no money, sale = lower prices, danger = not safe, quiet = no noise.

How to read

  1. Look at the big word first.
  2. Find numbers and times.
  3. If you see not, the message is negative: Do not enter.

Elanlar və işarələr

Gündəlik həyatda küçədə, mağazada, məktəbdə və ya evdə qısa yazılar görürük. Onlar adətən qısa olur və əmrlər (imperativlər) işlədilir:

  • Stop! – Dayan!
  • Push – İtələ (qapını itələ)
  • Pull – Çək (qapını özünə tərəf çək)
  • Open – Aç
  • Closed – Bağlıdır
  • No smoking – Siqaret çəkmək olmaz
  • Exit – Çıxış
  • Entrance – Giriş

Qısa mesajlar

Mesajlarda tez-tez **rəqəmlər **, saat və tarix olur:

  • Meet me at 5 o'clock. – Məni saat 5-də gör.
  • The shop opens at 9 a.m. – Mağaza səhər saat 9-da açılır.
  • Call me on 055 123 45 67. – Mənə 055 123 45 67 nömrəsinə zəng et.

Diqqət ediləcək sözlər

  • a.m. – səhər (00:00-dan 12:00-a qədər)
  • p.m. – günorta və axşam (12:00-dan 24:00-a qədər)
  • free – pulsuz
  • sale – endirim
  • danger – təhlükə
  • quiet – səssiz

Necə oxumalı?

  1. Əvvəlcə böyük hərflərlə yazılmış sözə baxın.
  2. Sonra rəqəmləri və vaxtı tapın.
  3. Əgər not sözü varsa, cümlə inkar olur: Do not enter – Girməyin.

Azərbaycan dili ilə müqayisə

Azərbaycan dilində də işarələr qısa olur: "Giriş", "Çıxış", "Siqaret çəkmək olmaz". İngilis dilində isə çox vaxt fel əvvəldə gəlir: **Push **, **Pull **, Stop. Bu, əmr formasıdır (imperativ).
