Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
To be nədir?
To be ingilis dilində 'olmaq' deməkdir. Azərbaycan dilində 'mən müəlliməm' deyirik, ayrıca 'olmaq' sözü işlətmərik. İngilis dilində isə bu feil mütləqdir: I am a teacher.

Mübtəda + am/is/are + isim/sifət.
- I am a student. Mən tələbəyəm.
- She is happy. O, xoşbəxtdir.
- They are from Azerbaijan. Onlar Azərbaycandandır.
İnkar cümləsi
İnkar üçün not əlavə edirik: am not, is not (isn't), are not (aren't).
- I am not tired. Yormuşam yox, yorğun deyiləm.
- He isn't a doctor. O, həkim deyil.
- We aren't late. Biz gecikmirik.
Sual cümləsi
Sualda am/is/are mübtədadan əvvəl gəlir:
- Are you ready? Hazırsan?
- Is she your sister? O, sənin bacındır?
- Am I right? Mən haqlıyam?
Qısa cavablar: Yes, I am. / No, I'm not. Yes, she is. / No, she isn't.
Diqqət
Azərbaycan dilində 'sən tələbəsən' deyirik, '-sən' şəkilçisi feili əvəz edir. İngilis dilində bu şəkilçi yoxdur, ona görə are sözünü mütləq yazmalıyıq: You are a student. 'You a student' yanlışdır.
