Explanation
Form
had + past participle: I had finished, She hadn't called, Had they left?
Use
We use the Past Perfect to show that one past action happened before another past action or time.
When we arrived, the concert had started. (First the concert started, then we arrived.)
Common time words: already, by the time, before, after, never ... before.
If we tell events in the order they happened, the Past Simple is enough: I woke up, got dressed and left. Do not use the Past Perfect just because something happened a long time ago.

- When I arrived at the station, the train had left., Mən stansiyaya çatanda qatar artıq getmişdi.
Burada iki hadisə var: əvvəl qatar getdi (had left), sonra mən çatdım (arrived).

had bütün şəxslər üçün eynidir. Qısaltma 'd həm had, həm də would ola bilər: I'd gone = I had gone, I'd go = I would go.

Nə vaxt lazım deyil?
Əgər hadisələr ardıcıllıqla danışılırsa, Past Simple kifayətdir: I got up, had breakfast and left. Həmçinin before/after sözləri ardıcıllığı artıq göstərdiyi üçün Past Simple də mümkündür: After she ate, she went out.
Tipik səhv
Azərbaycanlı öyrənənlər bəzən Past Perfect-i sadəcə 'çox uzaq keçmiş' üçün işlədirlər: I had been born in 2008, bu səhvdir. Past Perfect yalnız başqa keçmiş hadisəyə nisbətən əvvəli göstərir: I was born in 2008.

Past Perfect 'çox köhnə hadisə' demək deyil. Başqa keçmiş hadisə ilə müqayisə yoxdursa, Past Simple işlənir.

had-dən sonra V3 (past participle) gəlir: go – went – gone.
