Explanation

Many errors come from language transfer, using Azerbaijani patterns in English.

  1. Articles: Azerbaijani has none, so learners drop them. A singular countable noun always needs a determiner (a car, the sun).
  2. Prepositions: case endings don't translate directly: depend on, married to, arrive in, listen to, explain to me.
  3. Word order: English is SVO, not SOV: I drink coffee every day. Indirect questions use statement order.
  4. Gender: Azerbaijani o covers he and she; choose carefully.
  5. Tenses: I have lived here since 2018; I agree (not I am agree); no will after when.
  6. Uncountables: information, advice, furniture have no plural; news is.
  7. Literal translations: pay attention, take a photo, make a decision, I am 20.

Niyə bu səhvlər yaranır?

Beyin yeni dili ana dilinin «qəlibləri» ilə qurmağa çalışır. Buna dil transferi deyilir. Azərbaycan və ingilis dilləri quruluşca çox fərqlidir, ona görə bəzi səhvlər demək olar ki, hər öyrənəndə rast gəlinir. Onları tanımaq – düzəltməyin yarısıdır.

1. Artikllar

Azərbaycan dilində artikl yoxdur. Nəticə: I bought car (düzgün: a car), Sun is hot (The sun). Qayda: tək sayılan isim heç vaxt «çılpaq» qalmır – a/an, the, my, this və s. lazımdır.

2. Sözönləri

Azərbaycan dilində hal şəkilçiləri (-da, -a, -dan) işlənir, ingiliscə isə sözönləri. Tipik səhvlər:

  • depend from → depend on
  • married with → married to
  • arrive to Baku → arrive in Baku
  • listen music → listen to music
  • explain me → explain to me

3. Söz sırası

Azərbaycan dili SOV (subyekt–obyekt–fel), ingilis dili SVO-dur: I every day coffee drink deyil, I drink coffee every day. Zərflərin yeri: I often go (I go often to... da mümkündür, amma Often I go az işlənir). Vasitəli sualda: I don't know where he lives (where does he live yox).

4. Cins: he / she

Azərbaycan dilində o həm kişi, həm qadın üçündür. Danışıqda My sister... he is a doctor səhvi çox olur. Hər dəfə şəxsin cinsinə görə he/she seçin.

5. Zamanlar

  • I live here since 2018 → I have lived here since 2018.
  • I am agree → I agree (agree feldir, sifət yox).
  • When I will come → When I come.

6. Sayılan / sayılmayan

informations, advices, furnitures, news are → information, advice, furniture, news is.

7. Hərfi tərcümələr

  • «Fikir vermək» → pay attention (give attention yox)
  • «Şəkil çəkmək» (fotoaparatla) → take a photo (draw yox)
  • «Dərs keçmək» → teach a lesson / give a class
  • «Qərar vermək» → make a decision
  • «Mənim 20 yaşım var» → I am 20 (I have 20 years yox)
  • «Necəsən? – Normal» → I'm fine / I'm OK

Examples

  • She is an engineer at a big company.

    O, böyük bir şirkətdə mühəndisdir.

    Artikl: an engineer, a big company.

  • It depends on the weather.

    Bu, havadan asılıdır.

    -dan asılı → depend on.

  • My sister lives in Ganja. She works as a nurse.

    Bacım Gəncədə yaşayır. O, tibb bacısı işləyir.

    o → she.

  • I agree with you completely.

    Sizinlə tamamilə razıyam.

  • Could you explain this rule to me?

    Bu qaydanı mənə izah edə bilərsiniz?

  • I am twenty-two years old.

    Mənim iyirmi iki yaşım var.

  • Can you give me some advice about the exam?

    advice sayılmayan isimdir.

  • We arrived in Baku late at night.

    Bakıya gecə gec çatdıq.

    arrive in (şəhər), arrive at (bina, stansiya).

Common mistakes

  • I am agree with you.

    I agree with you.

    agree feldir; 'razıyam' sözünü hərfi tərcümə edib be əlavə etməyin.

  • My brother is a doctor. She works in a hospital.

    My brother is a doctor. He works in a hospital.

    Azərbaycan dilindəki 'o' ingiliscə cinsə görə he/she olur.

  • I have 25 years.

    I am 25 (years old).

    Yaş be feli ilə ifadə olunur.

  • He is married with a teacher.

    He is married to a teacher.

    be married to someone – düzgün sözöndür.

    information sayılmayan isimdir, cəm forması yoxdur.

Vocabulary
