Explanation
What is inversion?
In English, the normal word order is **subject + verb **. However, when certain negative or limiting adverbials are placed at the beginning of a sentence for emphasis, the auxiliary verb comes before the subject. This is called inversion and is common in formal and literary styles.
Adverbials that trigger inversion
Common ones include: never, rarely, seldom, hardly, scarcely, barely, little, nowhere, not only, no sooner, under no circumstances, on no account, at no time, in no way.
Examples:
- Never have I seen such a beautiful sunset.
- Rarely does she complain.
- Little did he realise the danger.
- Not only did they finish the project, but they also exceeded expectations.
- No sooner had we left than it started raining.
- Under no circumstances should you open this door.
When inversion is not used
If the adverbial is not at the beginning, normal word order is kept: I have never seen such a thing. Also, not alone at the beginning does not cause inversion: Not surprisingly, he failed.
No auxiliary? Use do/does/did
- Rarely do I go to the cinema.
- Little did she know about the surprise.

İnversiya nə vaxt lazım deyil?
Əgər zərf cümlənin əvvəlində deyilsə, adi söz sırası qalır:
