Explanation
Advanced passive structures
At C1 level, the passive is not only be + past participle. It includes several complex patterns used in academic and formal English.
1. Passive with reporting verbs Two common patterns:
- It is said/believed/reported that + clause: It is said that the company is losing money.
- Subject + is said/believed/reported + to + infinitive: The company is said to be losing money. For past events, use to have + past participle: He is believed to have left the country.
2. Causative: have/get something done Have/get + object + past participle means arranging for someone else to do something:
- I had my car repaired. (Someone repaired it for me.)
- She got her hair cut. Get is more informal; have is more formal.
3. Passive in complex tenses
- Present perfect: The report has been submitted.
- Past perfect: The building had been renovated.
- Future: The results will be announced tomorrow.
- Modal: The form must be signed by Friday.
- Continuous: The road is being repaired.
4. Active or passive? Use the passive when the doer is unknown, unimportant, or obvious, or to sound objective in academic writing. Use the active when the doer matters.

Passiv səsin genişlənməsi
Passiv səs C1 səviyyəsində təkcə be + past participle deyil, həm də müxtəlif mürəkkəb quruluşları əhatə edir. Bu quruluşlar akademik və rəsmi üslubda tez-tez işlənir.
1. Reporting verbs ilə passiv
Fikirləri, iddiaları və inancları bildirərkən iki əsas passiv quruluş var:
- It is said that... / It is believed that... / It is reported that...
- Subject + is said/believed/reported + to + infinitive
Nümunələr:
- It is said that the company is losing money. → The company is said to be losing money.
- It is believed that he left the country. → He is believed to have left the country. (keçmiş üçün to have + past participle)
Bu quruluşlar xəbərlərdə və elmi mətnlərdə mənbəni göstərmədən məlumat vermək üçün işlənir.
2. Causative: have/get something done
Have/get + object + past participle quruluşu işi başqasına gördürmək mənasını verir:
- I had my car repaired. (Maşınımı təmir etdirdim.)
- She got her hair cut. (Saçını kəsdirdi.)
- We need to have the roof fixed. (Damı düzəltdirməliyik.)
Get daha danışıq üslubunda, have isə daha rəsmi üslubda işlənir. Sual və inkar formaları köməkçi feillə qurulur: Did you have your eyes tested? / I didn't get my suit cleaned.
3. Mürəkkəb zamanlarda passiv
Passiv səs bütün zamanlarda işlənə bilər:
- Present perfect passive: The report has been submitted.
- Past perfect passive: The building had been renovated before we moved in.
- Future passive: The results will be announced tomorrow.
- Modal passive: The form must be signed by Friday. / This could be interpreted in two ways.
- Continuous passive: The road is being repaired.
4. Nə vaxt passiv, nə vaxt aktiv?
Passiv o zaman işlənir ki, hərəkəti edən şəxs vacib deyil, bilinmir və ya vurğulanmır. Akademik yazıda passiv tez-tez obyektivlik yaratmaq üçün istifadə olunur: The data were analysed using SPSS. Əgər hərəkəti edən şəxs vacibdirsə, aktiv səs daha təbii olur: The committee analysed the data.
Azərbaycan dili ilə müqayisə
Azərbaycan dilində passiv səs -ıl/-il/-ul/-ül şəkilçisi ilə düzəlir: yazılmaq, tikilmək. İngilis dilində isə be + past participle quruluşu işlənir. Azərbaycan dilində causative məna -dır/-dir/-dur/-dür şəkilçisi ilə verilir: təmir etdirmək. İngilis dilində bu məna have/get something done quruluşu ilə ifadə olunur.
Tipik səhvlər
- It is said that he is a genius yerinə He is said that he is a genius demək səhvdir. Düzgün variant: He is said to be a genius.
- Causative quruluşda object və past participle sırasını qarışdırmaq: I had repaired my car (özüm təmir etdim) ilə I had my car repaired (təmir etdirdim) arasındakı fərqi unutmaq.
- Passivdə by ilə agenti göstərməyi lazımsız yerdə işlətmək: The letter was written by me əvəzinə sadəcə I wrote the letter daha təbii ola bilər.
