Present Continuous

İndiki davamedici zaman (Present Continuous)

After this lesson you can

  • Can describe actions happening at the moment of speaking.
  • Can talk about temporary situations around now (this week, these days).
  • Can form positive, negative and question forms with am/is/are + -ing and spell -ing forms correctly.

Explanation

Use

Use the Present Continuous for actions happening now (Look! It's raining.), temporary situations around now (I'm reading a great book this week.) and changing situations (Prices are going up.).

Form

am/is/are + verb-ing: I'm working, she isn't working, Are they working? The helping verb am/is/are is always needed.

Spelling

  • read → reading
  • drop final -e: write → writing
  • double the consonant in short verbs: sit → sitting, run → running
  • lie → lying

Common time words: now, right now, at the moment, today, this week, these days.

Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah

Nə vaxt işlənir?

Present Continuous bunlar üçün işlənir:

  • danışıq anında baş verən hərəkət: Look! It's raining., Bax, yağış yağır.
  • indiki dövrdə müvəqqəti hərəkət: I'm reading a great book this week., Bu həftə maraqlı bir kitab oxuyuram (bu dəqiqə oxumaya da bilərəm).
  • dəyişən vəziyyətlər: Prices are going up., Qiymətlər artır.

Forma: am/is/are + -ing

TəsdiqİnkarSual
II'm workingI'm not workingAm I working?
he/she/itshe's workingshe isn't workingIs she working?
you/we/theythey're workingthey aren't workingAre they working?

Azərbaycan dilində "-ır, -ir" şəkilçisi (işləyir**əm **) bu mənanı verir və köməkçi feil yoxdur. İngilis dilində isə am/is/are mütləqdir: She working deyil, She is working.

-ing yazılışı

  • adi hal: read → reading, go → going
  • sonda -e: -e düşür: write → writing, make → making (amma see → seeing)
  • bir hecalı, sait + samit: samit ikiləşir: sit → sitting, run → running, swim → swimming
  • -ie → -ying: lie → lying, die → dying

Zaman ifadələri

now, right now, at the moment, today, this week, these days, Look!, Listen!

Tipik səhv

Şagirdlər çox vaxt köməkçi feili buraxır (I going) və ya hər indiki cümlədə Present Continuous işlədir. Hər gün təkrarlanan hərəkət üçün Present Simple lazımdır: I go to school every day, amma I'm going to school now.

Examples

  • Be quiet! The baby is sleeping.

    Səs salma! Körpə yatır.

  • I'm not watching TV, I'm doing my homework.

    Televizora baxmıram, ev tapşırığımı edirəm.

  • Are you listening to me?

    Məni dinləyirsən?

  • My cousin is staying with us this week.

Əmim oğlu bu həftə bizdə qalır.

    müvəqqəti vəziyyət

  • What are they talking about?

    Onlar nə barədə danışırlar?

  • The city is getting bigger every year.

    Şəhər hər il böyüyür.

    dəyişən vəziyyət

  • She's running in the park at the moment.

    O, hazırda parkda qaçır.

    run → running (n ikiləşir)

Common mistakes

  • I going to the shop now.

I'm going to the shop now.

    Present Continuous-da am/is/are buraxılmır.

  • She is writeing a letter.

    She is writing a letter.

Sonu -e ilə bitən feillərdə -e düşür: write → writing.

  • He is siting on the sofa.

He is sitting on the sofa.

Qısa feillərdə (sait + samit) son samit ikiləşir: sit → sitting.

  • Is raining now?

    Is it raining now?

İngilis dilində cümlədə mübtəda olmalıdır. Hava haqqında 'it' işlənir.

  • Where you are going?

    Where are you going?

Sualda köməkçi feil (are) mübtədadan əvvəl gəlir.
