Listening: announcements and instructions

Dinləmə: elanlar və təlimatlar

After this lesson you can

  • Can understand the main points of simple public announcements at airports, stations and in shops.
  • Can catch key details such as times, platform and gate numbers, and changes.
  • Can follow short spoken instructions in sequence.

Explanation

Announcements

Public announcements use fixed phrases: May I have your attention, please. We apologise for the delay. Please make your way to gate 12. Know these phrases so you can focus on the key information.

Listen for: who it is for, what has changed (delayed, cancelled, moved), and what to do.

Numbers: be careful with thirteen/thirty, fourteen/forty, -teen is stressed at the end, -ty at the start. Ten to nine = 8:50.

Instructions

Instructions use imperatives and sequence words: First..., Then..., After that..., Finally... Negative: Do not leave bags unattended.

Read the questions before you listen, focus on key words, and remember that announcements are often repeated.

Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah

Elanların xüsusiyyəti

İctimai elanlar çox vaxt sabit quruluşda olur və eyni ifadələr təkrarlanır:

  • Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please.
  • This is a passenger announcement.
  • We apologise for the delay / any inconvenience.
  • Please make your way to gate 12. – 12-ci çıxışa keçin.

Bu ifadələri tanısanız, diqqətinizi əsas məlumata – rəqəm, vaxt, yer – yönəldə bilərsiniz.

Nəyə qulaq asmalı?

  1. Kim üçün? – Passengers on flight AZ 041 to London...
  2. Nə dəyişib? – delayed (gecikir), cancelled (ləğv edilib), moved to platform 3
  3. Nə etməli? – Please go to..., Please have your passport ready.

Rəqəmlər – əsas tələ

  • thirteen / thirty, fourteen / forty, fifteen / fifty: -teen sözlərində vurğu sondadır (thirTEEN ), -ty sözlərində əvvəldə ( THIRty).
  • Vaxt: a quarter past six (6:15), half past seven (7:30), ten to nine (8:50).
  • Uçuş nömrələri hərf və rəqəmlə: AZ 041 → A-Z oh-four-one.

Azərbaycanlı dinləyicilər çox vaxt ten to nine-i «doqquzdan on dəqiqə keçir» kimi başa düşür. Əslində to = «...a qalmış»: 8:50.

Təlimatlar

Təlimatlar əmr forması ilə verilir və ardıcıllıq sözləri ilə bağlanır:

  • ***First **, scan your ticket. Then go through the gate. **After that *, take the escalator. Finally, wait behind the yellow line.
  • İnkar: Do not leave bags unattended. – Çantaları nəzarətsiz qoymayın.

Strategiya

  • Dinləməzdən əvvəl sualları oxuyun və hansı məlumatın lazım olduğunu təxmin edin (vaxt? yer?).
  • Hər sözü başa düşmək lazım deyil; açar sözləri tutun.
  • Elan çox vaxt iki dəfə təkrarlanır – birinci dəfə ümumi, ikinci dəfə detalları dinləyin.

Examples

  • Flight AZ 213 to Istanbul is delayed by forty minutes.

İstanbula AZ 213 reysi qırx dəqiqə gecikir.

  • Passengers for Gəncə, please go to platform three.

Gəncəyə gedən sərnişinlər, zəhmət olmasa, üçüncü platformaya keçin.

  • The 18:15 train has been cancelled. We apologise for any inconvenience.

Saat 18:15 qatarı ləğv edilib. Narahatçılığa görə üzr istəyirik.

  • Please do not leave your bags unattended.

    Zəhmət olmasa, çantalarınızı nəzarətsiz qoymayın.

  • The store will close in fifteen minutes. Please take your items to the checkout.

Mağaza on beş dəqiqəyə bağlanacaq. Zəhmət olmasa, mallarınızı kassaya aparın.

  • First, press the green button. Then wait for the beep.

Əvvəlcə yaşıl düyməni basın. Sonra siqnal səsini gözləyin.

Common mistakes

  • Hearing 'fifteen' and writing 50.

fifteen = 15 (stress at the end), fifty = 50 (stress at the start).

-teen və -ty rəqəmlərini vurğuya görə ayırın.

  • Thinking 'ten to six' means 6:10.

    'ten to six' means 5:50.

    to – «...a qalmış»; past – «...dən keçmiş».

  • Thinking 'delayed' means 'cancelled'.

delayed = it will happen later; cancelled = it will not happen.

delayed – gecikir, cancelled – ləğv edilib. Bu fərq səyahətdə çox vacibdir.

  • Trying to understand every word of the announcement.

Listening for key information: numbers, places, changes.

Elanlarda çoxlu sabit ifadə var; əsas məlumata fokuslanın.
