Listening: interviews
Dinləmə: müsahibələr
After this lesson you can
- Can follow a radio-style interview on a familiar topic.
- Can identify the speaker's main points, reasons and opinions.
- Can recognise fillers and hesitation phrases used in natural speech.
Explanation
Interviews
An interviewer asks questions; the interviewee answers. Listen carefully to the questions because they tell you what the answer will be about.
Strategies
- Read the tasks before you listen.
- Expect synonyms: the question may say start and the speaker set up.
- Listen for opinion phrases (I think, to be honest, personally) and reasons (because, that's why).
- Important information often comes after but or actually.
Fillers
Speakers use well, you know, I mean, sort of while thinking. They carry little meaning.
Don't stop if you miss a word. Keep listening and use the context.
Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
Müsahibələrin xüsusiyyətləri
Müsahibədə adətən iki nəfər danışır: interviewer (müsahibə götürən) suallar verir, interviewee (müsahibə verən) cavablandırır. Sualları diqqətlə dinləmək çox vacibdir, çünki onlar cavabın nə haqqında olacağını göstərir.
Dinləmə strategiyaları
- Əvvəlcə tapşırıqları oxuyun. Nəyi axtardığınızı bilsəniz, dinləmək asanlaşır.
- Açar sözləri gözləyin. Suallardakı sözlər mətndə çox vaxt sinonimlərlə verilir: started → set up, difficult → challenging.
- Fikir bildirən ifadələrə diqqət edin: I think, I believe, to be honest, personally, what I love is ...
- Səbəb sözləri: because, so, that's why, the reason is ...
- Ziddiyyət: but, actually, however, çox vaxt cavabın vacib hissəsi bunlardan sonra gəlir.
Doldurucu sözlər (fillers)
Təbii danışıqda insanlar fikirləşmək üçün belə sözlər işlədirlər: well, you know, I mean, sort of, let me think, actually. Bu sözlərin mənası azdır, onlara görə narahat olmayın. Azərbaycan dilindəki yəni, bilirsən, necə deyim kimidir.
Tipik çətinliklər
- Birləşmiş tələffüz: going to → gonna, want to → wanna, did you → didja.
- Qısaltmalar: I've been, we'd, it's been.
- Azərbaycanlı dinləyicilər bəzən hər sözü tutmağa çalışıb, sonrakı cümləni qaçırırlar. Bir sözü başa düşmədinizsə, dayanmayın, davam edin, kontekst kömək edəcək.
Fikir və fakt
Testlərdə tez-tez soruşulur: danışan nə edib (fakt) və nə düşünür (fikir). We started in 2021, fakt. I think small businesses need more support, fikir.
Examples
Well, to be honest, it was a bit of an accident.
Düzü, açığını desəm, bu bir az təsadüfən oldu.

Common mistakes
Stopping to translate one unknown word and missing the next sentence.
Continuing to listen and guessing the meaning from context.
Dinləmədə dayanmaq mümkün deyil; bir söz üçün bütün cavabı itirməyin.
Choosing an answer because you heard the same word in the recording.
Checking that the meaning matches, not just the word.
Testlərdə eyni söz tez-tez tələ kimi işlənir; mənaya diqqət edin.
Thinking that 'you know' means the speaker is asking you a question.
Understanding 'you know' as a filler with little meaning.
'you know' çox vaxt doldurucudur, Azərbaycan dilindəki 'bilirsən' kimi.
