Present Perfect vs Past Simple
Present Perfect və Past Simple
After this lesson you can
- Can choose between Present Perfect and Past Simple depending on whether the time is finished or not.
- Can start a conversation with a Present Perfect question and continue it with Past Simple details.
- Can recognise time expressions typical for each tense.
Explanation
Finished or unfinished time?
Use the Past Simple for actions at a specific, finished time: I saw her yesterday. We moved here in 2020.
Use the Present Perfect when the time is not given or the period is not finished: I have seen this film. I've had three lessons this week.
Past Simple words: yesterday, ago, last..., in 2018, when. Present Perfect words: ever, never, before, this week, so far.
In conversation, we often start with the Present Perfect and give details in the Past Simple: Have you ever been to Quba? Yes, I went there in May.
Questions with When always use the Past Simple: When did you buy it?
Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
Əsas fərq
Hər iki zaman keçmişdə olan hadisədən danışır, amma baxış bucağı fərqlidir.
- Past Simple – hadisə bitmiş, konkret vaxtda olub: I met him in 2022.
- Present Perfect – vaxt göstərilmir və ya hələ bitməyib, hadisə indi ilə bağlıdır: I have met him. (bu, mənim təcrübəmdir)
Azərbaycan dilində hər ikisini çox vaxt eyni formada deyirik: Mən onunla tanış oldum / tanış olmuşam. Ona görə Azərbaycanlılar bu iki zamanı tez-tez qarışdırır. İngilis dilində seçim vaxt ifadəsindən asılıdır.
Vaxt ifadələri
| Past Simple | Present Perfect |
|---|---|
| yesterday, last week, in 2019 | ever, never, before |
| two days ago, when I was a child | today, this week, this year (bitməyibsə) |
| What time...? When...? | so far, many times |
Söhbətin quruluşu
Təbii danışıqda çox vaxt sual Present Perfect ilə başlayır, sonra detallar Past Simple ilə gəlir:
- A: Have you ever been to Lənkəran?
- B: Yes, I **have **. I went there last summer.
- A: Really? What did you do there?
Birinci cümlə ümumi təcrübəni soruşur, ikinci isə konkret vaxtı bildirir.
When ilə sual
When sözü konkret vaxt soruşur, ona görə Past Simple tələb edir:
- ✓ When did you arrive?
- ✗ When have you arrived?
this morning / today
- Saat 10-dur, səhər hələ bitməyib: I have drunk two coffees this morning.
- Axşamdır, səhər bitib: I drank two coffees this morning.
