Explanation
Register and polite requests
Register is the style that fits the situation. In English, politeness comes from indirect structures:
- Informal: Can you...?
- Neutral: Could you..., please?
- Polite: Would you mind + -ing?
- Very polite: I was wondering if you could...
- Formal: I would be grateful if you could...
Asking permission: Do you mind if I open the window?
Answering Would you mind...?: say No, not at all or Of course not to agree.
Refuse politely: I'm afraid I can't... / I'd love to, but...
In shops, say Could I have...? or I'd like..., not Give me....
Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
Register nədir?
**Register **, vəziyyətə uyğun üslub: dostla, müəllimlə və ya müştəri ilə eyni cür danışmırıq. Azərbaycan dilində bu fərqi əsasən sən/siz, zəhmət olmasa, mümkünsə ilə göstəririk. İngiliscədə you bir formadır, ona görə nəzakət qrammatik quruluşla yaradılır: nə qədər dolayı, bir o qədər nəzakətli.
Nəzakət pilləkəni
| Səviyyə | Nümunə | Kimə |

| Neytral | Could you pass the salt, please? | hər kəs |
| Nəzakətli | Would you mind passing the salt? | tanımadığınız adam, həmkar |
| Çox nəzakətli | I was wondering if you could help me. | rəhbər, böyük xahiş |

Diqqət: mind = 'etiraz etmək'. Ona görə razılıq inkar sözlə verilir:
- Would you mind waiting?, No, not at all. / Of course not. (= Gözləyərəm.)
Yes, sure, məntiqi olaraq 'bəli, etiraz edirəm' deməkdir; danışıqda eşidilsə də, çaşqınlıq yaradır.
Nəzakətlə imtina
I'm afraid I can't... / I'd love to, but... / I'm sorry, but I'm a bit busy right now. Maybe later?, İngilislər birbaşa No demir, səbəb və alternativ təklif edirlər.
