Professional English: negotiation

Peşəkar ingilis dili: danışıqlar

After this lesson you can

  • Can make, accept and reject proposals politely in a business negotiation.
  • Can use conditional structures to bargain and offer concessions.
  • Can soften disagreement with diplomatic language to keep a positive relationship.

Explanation

A negotiation usually has four stages: opening and building rapport, stating positions, bargaining, and closing with a summary.

Conditionals are key for bargaining: If you order 500 units, we'll give you a 10% discount. The second conditional sounds more tentative and diplomatic: If you were able to pay in advance, we could reduce the price. Use as long as, provided that and on condition that to set conditions.

Diplomatic language softens disagreement: would/could, negative questions (Wouldn't it be better…?), softeners (I'm afraid, slightly), and not very + positive adjective. Reject politely and offer an alternative: I'm afraid we can't accept that. How about…? Check understanding, ask for time when needed, summarise what was agreed, and confirm it in writing.

Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah

Danışıqların mərhələləri

  1. Açılış – münasibət qurmaq, məqsədi bildirmək: Thanks for coming. Today we'd like to agree on...
  2. Mövqelərin bildirilməsi: Our main priority is... / We're looking for...
  3. Bazarlıq və güzəştlər – şərtli cümlələrlə.
  4. Yekunlaşdırma və təsdiq: So, to summarise, we've agreed that...

Şərtli cümlələrlə bazarlıq

Təklifi şərtə bağlamaq danışıqların əsas alətidir:

  • If you order 500 units, we 'll give you a 10% discount. (real təklif)
  • If you were able to pay in advance, we could reduce the price. (ehtiyatlı, daha diplomatik)
  • As long as / Provided that delivery is on time, we can accept these terms.
  • We could consider it on condition that...

Diplomatik dil

İngilis işgüzar mədəniyyətində birbaşa No demək kobud səslənə bilər. Yumşaltma üsulları:

  • would / could: That would be difficult for us.
  • Mənfi sualla: Wouldn't it be better to...?
  • Yumşaldıcı sözlər: I'm afraid..., Unfortunately..., a little, slightly
  • Mənfi sifət əvəzinə not very + müsbət sifət: That's not very convenient (inconvenient yox)
  • I see your point, but... / I understand your position. However...

Azərbaycan işgüzar mühitində də nəzakət vacibdir, amma çox vaxt şəxsi münasibət və şifahi razılıq ön plandadır. İngilisdilli tərəfdaşlar isə adətən dəqiq rəqəmlər, şərtlər və yazılı təsdiq gözləyir: Could you put that in writing?

Rədd etmək və qarşı təklif

  • I'm afraid we can't accept that. How about...?
  • That's not quite what we had in mind. Would you consider...?
  • We're not in a position to... at this stage.

Vaxt qazanmaq və aydınlaşdırmaq

  • Let me check with my team and get back to you.
  • Could you clarify what you mean by...?
  • So, if I understand you correctly, you're saying that...

Win-win

Yaxşı danışıq hər iki tərəfin qazandığı nəticəyə çalışır: I think we've found a solution that works for both of us.

Examples

  • If you can guarantee delivery by March, we'll sign the contract today.

Martadək çatdırılmaya zəmanət verə bilsəniz, müqaviləni bu gün imzalayacağıq.

  • We could offer a lower price provided that you commit to a two-year deal.

İki illik müqavilə bağlamağı öhdənizə götürsəniz, daha aşağı qiymət təklif edə bilərik.

  • I'm afraid that would be slightly too expensive for us.

Təəssüf ki, bu, bizim üçün bir qədər baha olardı.

  • Wouldn't it make more sense to split the costs?

    Xərcləri bölmək daha məntiqli olmazdımı?

  • I see your point, but we need to consider our budget.

Fikrinizi başa düşürəm, amma büdcəmizi də nəzərə almalıyıq.

  • Let me discuss this with my team and get back to you by Friday.

İcazə verin, bunu komandamla müzakirə edim və cümə gününədək sizə cavab verim.

  • So, to sum up, we've agreed on a 7% discount and payment within 30 days.

Beləliklə, yekunlaşdırsaq, 7% endirim və 30 gün ərzində ödəniş barədə razılaşdıq.

Common mistakes

  • No. This price is bad.

I'm afraid that price is a little higher than we expected.

Birbaşa rədd etmək kobud səslənir; yumşaldıcı ifadələr işlədin.

  • If you will order more, we will give a discount.

If you order more, we will give you a discount.

if hissəsində will işlənmir; give-dən sonra şəxs (you) lazımdır.

  • We can make a discount for you.

We can give you a discount. / We can offer you a discount.

'Endirim etmək' – give/offer a discount, make yox.

  • OK, we agree. See you!

Great. Let's summarise what we've agreed, and I'll send you an email to confirm.

Danışıqların sonunda razılaşmanı yekunlaşdırmaq və yazılı təsdiq etmək vacibdir.
