Professional English: presentations
Peşəkar ingilis dili: təqdimatlar
After this lesson you can
- Can structure a professional presentation with clear signposting language.
- Can use rhetorical devices such as cleft sentences and inversion to emphasise key points.
- Can hedge claims appropriately to sound credible and professional.
Explanation
Structuring a presentation
A good presentation has three parts: **introduction **, body and conclusion. Use signposting language to guide your audience.
Signposting phrases
- Introduction: Today I'd like to talk about..., My presentation is divided into three parts.
- Transitions: Let's move on to..., Turning now to..., This brings me to...
- Conclusion: To sum up..., In conclusion..., I'd like to leave you with...
Emphasis techniques
Use cleft sentences and inversion to highlight key points:
- Cleft: What matters most is consistency.
- Inversion: Not only does it save time, but it also reduces costs.
- Hedging: It would appear that..., There is evidence to suggest that... These make you sound more professional.
Comparison with Azerbaijani
Azerbaijani uses word order and intonation for emphasis, while English often uses grammatical structures like clefts and inversion.
Azərbaycan dilində ətraflı izah
Təqdimatın quruluşu
Yaxşı təqdimat üç əsas hissədən ibarətdir: **giriş **, əsas hissə və nəticə. Hər hissə arasında keçid ifadələri (signposting) dinləyicini yönləndirir.
Keçid ifadələri (signposting)
- Giriş: Today I'd like to talk about..., My presentation is divided into three parts.
- Keçid: Let's move on to..., Turning now to..., This brings me to...
- Nəticə: To sum up..., In conclusion..., I'd like to leave you with...
Vurğu üsulları
Diqqəti əsas məqama yönəltmək üçün cleft sentences və inversion istifadə edin:
- Cleft: What matters most is consistency. (Ən vacibi ardıcıllıqdır.)
- Inversion: Not only does it save time, but it also reduces costs.
- Hedging: It would appear that..., There is evidence to suggest that... Bu ifadələr sizi daha peşəkar göstərir.
Azərbaycan dili ilə müqayisə
Azərbaycan dilində vurğu söz sırası və ya səs tonu ilə verilir. İngilis dilində isə cleft və inversion kimi qrammatik vasitələr işlədilir. Məsələn, "Ən vacibi ardıcıllıqdır" cümləsini ingilis dilində What matters most is consistency kimi qurmaq daha təsirli olur.
Təqdimatda ton və jestlər
Səs tonunuzu dəyişin, vacib məqamlarda pauza edin və göz təması qurun. Bu, mesajınızın daha yaxşı çatmasına kömək edir.
Examples
Today I'd like to talk about our new marketing strategy.
Bu gün yeni marketinq strategiyamız haqqında danışmaq istərdim.
Let's move on to the next point, which is customer feedback.
Növbəti məqama, yəni müştəri rəylərinə keçək.
What we need to focus on is improving our response time.
Diqqət yetirməli olduğumuz əsas məsələ cavab müddətini yaxşılaşdırmaqdır.
cleft sentence ilə vurğu
Not only does this approach save time, but it also reduces costs.
Bu yanaşma təkcə vaxta qənaət etmir, həm də xərcləri azaldır.
inversion
It would appear that our current strategy is not effective enough.
Görünür, hazırkı strategiyamız kifayət qədər effektiv deyil.
hedging
To sum up, we need to invest more in training.
Yekun olaraq, təlimlərə daha çox sərmayə qoymalıyıq.
I'd like to leave you with one key message: quality comes first.
Sizə bir əsas mesaj verməklə yekunlaşdırmaq istərdim: keyfiyyət birinci gəlir.
Common mistakes
I am agree with this point.
I agree with this point.
İngilis dilində 'agree' feildir, ona görə də 'am' köməkçi feili lazım deyil.
Let's move on the next slide.
Let's move on to the next slide.
'Move on' ifadəsi 'to' sözönməsi ilə işlənir.
What is important it is consistency.
What is important is consistency.
Cleft cümlədə 'it' artıqdır: What is important is...
Not only it saves time, but also reduces costs.
Not only does it save time, but it also reduces costs.
Inversionda köməkçi feil mübtədadan əvvəl gəlir: does it save. Həmçinin ikinci hissədə 'it' əvəzliyi təkrar olunmalıdır: but it also reduces.
I think that maybe perhaps we could consider...
Perhaps we could consider...
Hedging ifadələrini yığmaq lazım deyil, biri kifayətdir.
